Enshrouded Building Guide - How to Build the Best House

In any open-world survival game, the primary focus is building the perfect base that you love, giving the physical appearance to your imagination. Enshrouded is no different but with the complexity of the game, it becomes hard to make it something you will truly endorse. To help you out, we have here our Enshrouded Building Guide, where we will share with you details, and tips/tricks on how to build the best house in Enshrouded.

Enshrouded Building Guide - How to Build the Best House

Best Location to Build House in Enshrouded

Unlike most games out there, Enshrouded doesn’t put too much pressure on choosing a specific location to build your house. Yes, you do have to pick a location, but that necessarily doesn’t mean that there are specific locations you can build your house on.

You have a massive space to put resources in, and the game also doesn’t emphasize building near locations filled with natural resources. This can help you shorten the distance, but the game doesn’t force you to make a base around a resource-filled area.

This opens up opportunities to make a base anywhere you like, including cave systems, on mountains, cliffs, or near a beautiful water stream.

So, this means that the best location to build a house in Enshrouded is the one you truly like, and have a clear picture in your mind about. In case you are looking to make a town or a proper village where you have everything at your disposal, we might have a few things that will help you get things running.

Flame Altar Placement

Flame Altar Placement in Enshrouded House Building

  1. Look for a flat surface, or level the ground before putting the Flame Altar.

  2. Place the Flame Altar in the center of the location, and look whether you have enough surface around or not.

  3. You need a Work Bench to build blocks in Enshrouded, so after putting the Flame Altar, make yourself a Workbench.

  4. You can choose the base or foundation of your choice, but a stone foundation looks pretty clean and organized. So, put a Stone foundation in the square around the Flame Altar.

  5. Place your Work Bench on the stone foundation.

Boundaries and Comfort Space

Boundaries and Comfort Space when Building House in Enshrouded

Now, it is time to build the boundaries around your flame altar, that will protect you from animals, and other players. This turns the location into your comfort space.

Same as before, use the stones to create boundaries. There is an orange colored line as well that indicates the limit of Flame Altar. Don’t cross it, but put the stone walls barely in it.

This is the boundary of the house, but where is the living space? At one of the corners, you can make a stone floor and put wooden walls around it to create a small room, just for yourself to rest.

Placing Bed and Firespace for Comfort in Enshrouded

To lie down, you can make a small bed as well in the corner of your living area. Furthermore, the beautifying process depends on your imagination.

The living space can have windows, doors, and a roof so that it looks representable. When building a house in Enshrouded, the main problem lies in the roof, and to tackle that you should consider using the Prefab Roofs that come packed in Enshrouded.

You can delete and recreate structures, and making the roofs is a tough part. So, just use the Prefab Roofs, and try using them only to create a roof over your living space.

You can also put a fireplace inside your living space, just to give yourself some warmth at night time, when you are sleeping. The windows and the door will give an exceptional look to this small area.

There are a few tips and tricks worth noting:

  • You can toggle the snap on/off, to make it effortless while building structures. When it is on, the mouse cursor will automatically lock onto the position, and when it is off, the cursor will give you a free will to place blocks.

  • Manually building with blocks is the recommended way to build a building in Enshrouded. You can put in a resource on the bar and use it to create structures from scratch.

  • Manually creating is hard at one point, but when you get yourself used to creating structures yourself using the blocks, and with the snap-off, you will have more experience afterward, creating complex structures that are hard to do otherwise.

Enshrouded NPCs in Base/House

Enshrouded NPCs in Base/House

You have your living space set up and the boundaries to your precious base, but what’s the step onward? Well, you can’t simply make a village, a mansion, or a full-on base with every resource at your disposal early on. You will have to get NPCs in your base that allow you to make things.

The NPCs will unlock the crafting recipes that in return allow you to expand your precious base/house. There are a total of 5 NPCs in Enshrouded at the moment that you can put in your base.

  • Blacksmith

  • Hunter

  • Farmer

  • Alchemist

  • Carpenter

All of these mentioned NPCs are going to give you things that you can craft, or make structures that will produce resources for you over time. The game simply doesn’t let you make things like shelves, as you have to gather the necessary bricks, and other things before making them.

These characters aren’t located far away in Enshrouded, and you can get them early on in the game if you search for them. This is an Enshrouded Building Guide after all, and we are showing you How to Build the Best House, so we will link After you have your NPCs, you can make separate structures for them or a foundation where they can stand and then you can use the recipes to craft different things.

One thing to note here is that some of the NPCs require foundation, while others require cover. So, you can build palace walls around the NPC to give them a place to stand in.

When you rescue these NPCs, you won’t only get access to extra building material, but they also have extra and better gear that they can craft for you. You don’t have to go out and find them like other games, as you have them in your base.

Upgrading Base

Upgrading Base in Enshrouded after Flame Altar upgrade

After you start progressing by unlocking and freeing their NPCs, you can upgrade the previous base, and start putting new things that are either useful or just as a part of beautifying your base.

Like adding a kitchen, drawers, a separate fireplace, and so on. These things will increase your in-game comfort level, and as already discussed here in our Enshrouded Building Guide, you will increase your Stamina, adding to your Resting Buff.

The most noticeable change people make when Building the Best House is the floors. People start with a single-storey living space and then start adding stories, like first floor, second floor, and so on.

You can do the same here, and add the first floor, or second floor, as you wish, and this way you also need to have the stairs unlocked.

With that being said, it is also time to upgrade your Flame Altar, which was the foundation or the building block of your Enshrouded House. The upgraded Flame Altar will give you much more space than you already had, and it gives you much more possibilities. This is the time for you to start building your town or village if you desire.

Tips for Gathering Materials for House

As you start expanding your base and building your town or village, you require a ton of materials. Here are a few tips and tricks that will help you gather materials.

  • Resin - These drop from trees when you cut them down randomly. There is a chance here, but the trees with golden leaves will always drop your Resin. These are more like big plants than proper trees.

  • Flintstone - It is a dark brown sticky material on the boulders. So, you can find it mostly in the Flintstone Mines, or around the landscape. Mining Flintstone will also give you an easy experience in the game to level up your character.

  • Bones and Animal Fur - You can get both of these resources only from animals. On the landscape, you will find wolves, and looting them after defeat will get both their Bones and Animal Fur. Hang onto the bones and fur, as people tend to throw them away, and they are used to craft items.

  • Plant Fibers and String - You will be requiring Plant Fibers and Strings a lot in the game while building your house early on. Whenever you are traveling around, you need to pick up small plants with green leaves that give you Plant Fibers.

  • Metal - Most starting buildings are made of wood, or you use stone, but after progression, you will start shifting to Metal. The best way to farm Metal in Enshrouded is to head towards the human enemy camp and kill them, picking up Metal as loot.

  • As a final tip, whenever you find a good resource location, you can place your second Flame Altar there, and it will become a Fast Travel location, allowing you to come back to that same area after dying.

Why Build a House in Enshrouded?

Enshrouded is an open-world survival game, and building a home enables you to comfort your player.

  1. Resting Buff - When you have comfort, you get the comfort buff, and the more you have it, the less your character will require resting, meaning he/she will get tired less. More rest will give you longer working hours, increasing your stamina, and making you better at tasks as well.

  2. Enhancing Stamina - When you are in comfort, meaning you take a rest in your lovely house in Enshrouded, it will increase your Stamina Bar. Ultimately, you can do more things before you run out of stamina, if you take more rest than usual. You can run, jump, climb, harvest, and fight longer, alongside doing everything efficiently related to stamina.

Stamina is the main part of Enshrouded and most other similar games, as characters tend to deplete their stamina bar and end up wasting time. So, making a house will allow you to make a structure that you can take comfort in, rest, and make your character healthier, saving more time in return. This is the main reason to build in Enshrouded.

Conclusion

The success behind Enshrouded is its versatility and uniqueness. The game doesn’t hold you back and gives you the freedom to do as you please. Unlike most open-world survival games, Enshrouded doesn’t have any strictness on where to build a base particularly. Thus, you can go with the location of your choice, and make the base as you please. As a Kickstarter, we have here an Enshrouded Building Guide, where we will share with you tips on How to Build the Best House in the game using the knowledge provided. All in all, you can build the base exactly the way you like, just sketch in mind beforehand, and also don’t be afraid of experimenting with things.
